Seattle is most often thought of as the birthplace of grunge, the home of Starbucks the city where it always rains. Often overlooked, is the rich Modern Architecture that dots Seattle’s neighborhoods and public spaces. Modern Architecture in Seattle is generally attributed to Paul Thiry, known as the “father of modernism” in Seattle. Northwest Regionalism or Northwest Modernism was spread throughout the region in the 1930’s by modern architects Thiry, Lionel Pries, Paul Hayden Kirk and Roland Terry among others.
Seattle is currently experiencing a Modern revival. Today, homes in Seattle that are modern in form whether new or classics are in demand. These homes typically are on the market for fewer days than other homes. That alone speaks volumes about Seattle.
